SATA Azores Airlines Pet Policies

Small domestic pets (up to 7 kg) may travel in the cabin in a kennel, cage or waterproof bag allowing the animal to stand up, turn around and lie down. During the flight, the container may not be placed on the seats.

On SATA Air Acores flights the number of animals transported in the cabin is limited, in Q400 aircrafts two animals and in Q200 aircrafts a single animal. Animals over 7 kg must be checked in, and will be transported in their kennel in a heated compartment. [AMZ asins='B00QHC01C2,B00AAPGA2W,B000633ZOY,B0B77BRG75']

For the acceptance of an animal is necessary a pre-notification and a confirmation from SATA.

For security reasons, the rodents should be transported in a rigid container and sealed system (which prevents accidental escape of the rodent) and will not be accepted on board pregnant females.

Information on the type of animal, the animal’s weight and the dimensions of its kennel must be given at the time of reservation, which will be subject to later confirmation.

Animal transport fees (see excess luggage fees) will be paid at the airport.
The animal updated veterinary documentation must be presented at check-in time.

Exceptions:
Is not allowed to transport animals in flights to/from England.
Passengers can transport only cats, dogs and ferrets to/from Ireland.

Note:
IATA recommendations currently prohibit birds and other domestic fowl from
being brought on board the cabin.

Animal Products and Alive Animals from Countries Outside the EU.
Due to the risk of introducing diseases into the European Union (EU), there are strict procedures for the introduction of certain animal products into the EU. These procedures do not apply to the movements of animal products between the 27 Member States of the EU, or for animal products coming from Andorra, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino, and Switzerland.

All animal products not conforming to these rules must be surrendered on arrival in the EU for official disposal. Failure to declare such items may result in a fine or criminal prosecution.
